How to defeat "cold call" reluctance?

I just started a service business. I wanted to use cold calling as a form of my service market. How many calls per day is cold enough? I was thinking about 50 calls a day. That number is all I can handle. My Company services forces me to contact the business owners across the U.S. and ask them if you are interested in selling your business. call to companies that generate $ 10 mill. $ 100 mill in annual sales. This is the only method that I can afford right now to what it can give a direct mail campaign. Any advice?
