Every Door Direct Mail Vs. Door Hanger Delivery (Why EDDM will crush the competition)
Every Door Direct Mail is a ground breaking new direct mail system created by the US postal service that allows businesses to mail postcards or other mail pieces at an astounding 14.2 cents per postcards. We think that the postage savings alone is enough to jump for joy and commit marketing resources to using the program – however, we thought it would be prudent to look at the alternatives to Every Door Direct Mail and compare them as viable solutions. As you can tell from the tone of our article, we soundly believe that EDDM is hands down a Direct Mail Marketing winner! Let's get started shall we?
Every Door Direct Mail involves mailing postcards to everyone in your businesses neighborhood for 14.2 cents. This is 66% off the cost of a standard stamp. So, for discussions sake, assume that you would be mailing 5000 postcards to your neighborhood for your business. 5000 postcards, not including the printing costs would be around $750 in postage. One of the alternatives to Every Door Direct Mail would be a Door hanger.
Many customers use door hangers as a "heel to toe" approach to marketing. Once you print your door hangers with a professional company you would walk down the streets of your neighborhood placing your door hangers on your prospects doors. This is a good solution because you don't have any costs except for printing, and your sweat equity, and time. If you have the time to invest into this type of program, it would be inexpensive and garner some results. However, if you are out delivering door hangers, you are not working on your business. How can you service your customers if you are out delivering door hangers? If you were to use EDDM instead, the post office will deliver your mail marketing message for you saving you all the time that you would have invested in delivering those door hangers. Some businesses will claim that they will pay someone $7 an hour to walk around and deliver door hangers so the business owner can concentrate on more important tasks, like taking care of their customers. This is a solution that some businesses think is viable. However, when you look closely you realize that even the fastest person could only walk around 40 houses in an hour. So if you divide $7 per hour by 40 houses, it would cost you 17.5 cents per door hanger that was delivered. That is over 3 cents more per delivery than a Every Door Direct Mail piece. Also you could not guarantee that your employee actually delivered the door hangers instead of throwing them in the garbage and milking the clock and wasting your money.
If you were do the door hanger yourself (saving your $7 per hour) it would take you 125 hours to deliver the same amount of pieces that your Every Door Direct Mail carrier would deliver in 1 day.
There simply isn't a better way to get your marketing message delivered in tangible form to your local customers. Personally, I feel bad for the Door Hanger deliver services, because this program will put them out of business.
Try Every Door Direct Mail for your business and we promise that you will see results.

Direct Mail Marketing - What You Need To Know About Post and Automation bulk mail discounts
The Post Office offers discounts to customers email based on class of service (First Class, Standard or nonprofit), and barcodes (to help the Post Office to automate their processes.) Here is a decline of you need to know to automate your mailings and use a bulk mail permit. The information is not complete without a doubt, the Postal Service has hundreds of pages Specification in Direct Mail Manual. This, however, must cover the basics.
Postal Class.
Classes are first basic postal class, standard class and non-profit. The first class is the most expensive, but the delivery is almost certain 1-4 days. Standard Class and profit are the two kinds of discount for delivery can take on average 10.7 days working. Delivery times vary depending on the distance traveled by the mail piece from where it fell. If Standard class mail is left in the same city that is being delivered, the delivery can be as fast as first class. If you are mailing around the country, standard class can be 2 weeks or more. Never e-mail that the standard class time. As a rule, the rule is transported by truck class, first kinds of flies.
Mail Piece sizes.
The Postal Service has a variety of size and weight classifications. The two main classifications are letters and floors. The cards have deep discounts shipping. The lyrics are all shipping from 6 x 11 and 5 over 3.5 x. The Charter also includes postal sorting are less than 4.25 x 6. There is an additional discount First Class Post. The letters also have to be within a length to width of less than 1.3 and not more of 2.5 (so you can not get a rating for a Charter email squares). Homes are generally larger than the letters or letter off the length to width.
Postal Permit or Evidence. For any postage discounts an advertisement must have a postal permit issued by the Post Office. There is a cost of approximately $ 175 for permission and there are pages of rules for the use of properly. The license number is printed above and to the right of the address. The printed permit number called "Evidence." You need a minimum number of pieces to use your postal permit, usually 200 or more, but the number varies by class.
Pre-selection software.
Postage discounts are generally divided into "Automation" and "automation." Automation refers to items that are CASS certified NCOA'd, barcoded and sorted correctly. To make automation shipments and obtain the best discounts you need a pre-screening software, such as by Satori Bulk Mailer or four advertisements Melissa Data. The software is complicated and expensive, and not for the casual mailer.
CASS certification.
CASS (Coding Accuracy of the system) is software that compares a list of mailing list service standard zip. When there is a match, the address on the mailing list is corrected to conform to the standard version. "Street" has been changed to "San" misspelled street names have been corrected, and zip codes zip changed to 4. You do not need 100% CASS certified mail, but only address CASS Certificates can get automation discounts.
NCOA.
National Change of Address. The Postal Service now requires that all ads automation discounts advertising they want to run your mailing list database or NCOA list. NCOA list usually goes back four years and moving tracks. Note note, however, that if a person does not complete a forwarding "address" in the Post Office, then the motion information is not in the NCOA database.
Manual pre-sorting.
You can not ship postal automation with their permission prior to filing manually. CASS certification, NCOA and bar codes are not necessary. Manual pre-sorting is to bring your mail to a post office that accepts bulk mail (see Business Mail Entry Facility), then sort out the pieces on trays by zip code, etc. You have to fill out forms and procedures. It's no fun and discounts not automated, with the exception of non-profit, hardly worth it.
Barcodes. The bar code on a piece of mail only are required for sending automation. Again, you need software to send bulk mail shipments of automation. The numbers in the code bar are just the rack four numbers. Normally the mail software also has print drivers for your address. You can also use "Merge" in Microsoft Word, but the successful installation with the source of Postnet barcode is for the expert in technology alone.
Addressing standards.
The Postal Service uses OCR (optical character recognition) software to read the entire post with a permit. The OCR software reads only black letters written and only in specific locations on the mail piece. As a result, stringent specifications are not addressing. Service Postal offers free see through the positioning guide that can be used to align the directions correctly. The guide also has every type of and letter spacing requirement. You can pick one free at most local post offices.
Business Unit for incoming mail.
Also BMEU is called. Permission to use your card, you can just leave your direct mail pieces off at the BMEU. Best is to ask someone at your local post office for the location nearest you. The people of the BMEU often very useful and can walk you through the process of preparation your mail for automation discounts and therefore no automation.
